Day 12: GRAND FINALE! THE FACE IN YOUR FACE.

With blood on our hands from non-stop knitting the face has been born.

So we decided to violate the face a little

Day 8

After knitting most of our pink blocks we assembled and traded with the other groups to get the colours we needed.

Then we placed the blocks according to the grid without knitting them together.

And it's actually starting to look like                            something!!

Day 6 & 7

Weekend!!
And no it was not party all weekend...we actually knitted and here's some proof!

Day 5

Still working hard today. We are currently learning new knitting styles and completing our over all design for the face of SOD1.

Here's some pics to give you an idea.

Day 4

Blogging! Need we say more!

The Brief

The Surface Design first year students (SOD1) of Cape Peninsula University of Technology have been divided into 4 groups of 4. Each received a colour to knit, of which we were given pink.

The other colours are black, red and light blue.

Next, mugshots were taken of all the Surface Design students. With these (amazingly criminal-looking) photo's the face of SOD1 were created.

               And this is her!

This was done by layering all photo's on top of each other.

Next the image was divided into quarters and pixalated. And this is our section.

The different tones represent the different colours.

Black - Black
Grey - Red
Light grey - Pink
     White - Light blue

Now, each pixel is being knitted and when each group has reached their quota of 90 blocks, these will be knitted together to create the face of SOD1.

We invite you to follow this process with us as we explore the vast possibilities of knitting!

ALPHA MALE / LAZYASS / MRALWAYSNOTINCLASS

Hellooo ( : my name is Athi Mangwane and I'm a
1st year Surface Design student at CPUT. Sanaa, Magriet,
Zenie and I are part of a group that is responsible for
knitting all the 10x10cm PINK blocks. I'm starting to enjoy
the knitting because of my group and the whole
 assignment.

There wont be much elaboration as to what exactly is happening  on the images                                       below, but it is just a brief step by step imagery from the beginning till one end product.

- Casting on of my very 1st block.

- Measuring of my stock stitching.

-This is the end product, a 10cmX10cm knitted block.

- Look how serious I am (:
